Century plant

I was having coffee with a good friend of mine and he said something that made me thinking about life inform of century plant , he said that many of us waked up when we are 40- 50 years to start doing what we had always wanted to do , travel, doing sports, paying attention to what we eat, thinking of losing weight .

However century plant is beautiful plant , it's called century plant because it is believed to live at least a hundred years , but it rarely does. It grows rather slowly for perhaps ten or twenty or even fifty years until one day, with no advance warning , it suddenly sends up a thick stack from its center, a stalk that may grow as high as twenty feet in less than a month .

Then the top of the stalk erupts into hundreds of sprays of tiny yellow flowers for weeks or more , high above every other living thing in the desert. The flowers are blown away by the wind, the tall stalk dries up quickly and crashes to the ground , and the century plant after it's all too brief, single moment of glory , shrivels up and dies, a sad but accurate metaphor for many of us who achieve great success.

We are all like the century plant , we spend our lives trying to convince ourselves that , like the real plant , we have control over our destiny.
